Nablus Villages

Memories Engraved in Stone

In early 2019, a series of site visits was conducted covering 18 villages and towns throughout the West Bank. The masonry motifs decorating the facades of Nablus villages, Sarra, Talfit and Selt Adh-Daher, enriched the simple forms of peasant architecture of these villages. The heritage left by the local skilled artisans and stone sculptors was roughly documented by this photographic collection.

For 30 years now, site inspection and close documentation of the villages’ state of conservation, has been RIWAQ’s approach in obtaining the knowledge necessary to articulate its protection plans and updating its registry. Through surveys, notes, sketches, and photography, RIWAQ has managed to create “a living inventory” of the architectural heritage in Palestine.
