The Planning and Development
Unit works to protect and rehabilitate the most
significant historic areas in Palestine by:
1- Cooperating with the National Authority to create a
national policy for the protection of cultural heritage,
thereby placing the protection, rehabilitation and
development of this heritage on the list of priorities
for the National Authority.
2- Establishing a constitutional and legal framework for
the protection and development of Palestinian cultural
heritage, including ratification by the Palestinian
Legislative Council of the new law for the protection of
cultural and natural heritage.
3- Creating a partnership with the Ministry of Local
Government and with municipalities and local communities
to allow them to take an active role in protection and
rehabilitation efforts.
4- Developing a plan that encourages the private sector
and groups involved in economic development to invest in
cultural heritage within specific guidelines that ensure
the safety of that heritage.
