A Legal Framework for the Protection of Cultural
Heritage (policies, laws, and by-laws) is the result of
a project launched by the Ministry of Tourism and
Antiquities (MOTA), through the Bethlehem 2000 Project
and in coordination with other concerned ministries, to
draft a law for the protection of the
cultural and natural heritage in Palestine.
As part
of the bidding process published by the Ministry and the
UNDP, the Institute of Law at Birzeit University
assembled a team that included experts in law as well as
in cultural and natural preservation. Riwaq, with our
experts in the preservation of traditional architecture
and archaeology, joined the team and additionally
oversaw the overall coordination of cultural heritage
issues.
Riwaq has also worked on a
policy paper on cultural heritage as a tool
for development.
